Jones he's not. But Kansas City, North, artist Ken Southwick did
have an adventure during a summer trip to India. You can see Southwick's
paintings of India today through Dec. 31 in the art gallery at the
First National Bank of Gladstone, 7001 N. Oak Trafficway.
First, though, let Southwick tell his story: "I found three
little girls selling scarves along the street in New Delhi and offered
to pay them if they would let me paint them. I sat down, and before
I had my paints out, I had a crowd of about 20 people standing around
watching me.
"The police came and broke up the crowd which formed again
in about five minutes," Southwick's story continues. "The
police broke up this crowd, and now I am surrounded by police. This
scared ... me. One officer was particularly ugly and expected me
to tip him. I was shaking so bad I didn't realize at first what
he wanted."
The trip, however, was successful for Southwick. He painted in a
museum. He also told us he took 600 photographs and saw some incredible
things. He is showing 12 paintings of India at the gallery in the
bank.
